Goblin shark caught by fishermen in Tokyo Bay

On January 25, 2007, a rare goblin shark caught by fishermen in Tokyo Bay. But it's dead 2 days later. With the strange and frightening that a line of teeth, these fish have been attracting attention of scientists from around the world. This is a brief history of ancient mysterious shark.


Only a few of which can be known from this monster that is usually only stay in the bottom of ocean. Goblin sharks are called scientific Mitsukurina owstoni is an ancient shark that has been previously considered extinct. He can be recognized from the shape of his head with a long protrusion of the forehead. In addition, a line of teeth that frightening caparison mouth. Goblin sharks can grow up to 3.3 meters long and 159 kg weight.


Generally, this sharks are only found in the deep blue sea, far below the light beam, more than 200 meters below sea level. They can be found in the waters around the world, from Australia to the gulf of Mexico. However, people know them, especially from Japanese waters, the place where modern science to find them for the first time.


The first invention of the shark can be tracked until 1898, when the specimens caught in Sagami sea, near Yokohama, Japan. Estimated there are about 24 species associated with this shark. The name of this shark is, Mitsukurina owstoni, given the first time by David Jordan which received the first spices, from a zoologist of Tokyo University, Kakichi Mitsukuri. While the name owstoni form of reverence for wild creatures a collector named Alan Owston also get a fish from a Japanese fisherman.
